Another year later, another year older.

Yep, had my 29th birthday today. Pretty uneventful aside from the fact I saved our new mechanic-in-training from a major screw-up minutes before I clocked out...

He had done an oil change, tire rotation and a few recalls on a customer's Nissan Rogue earlier in the day and just before I clocked out, the customer came by and picked it up, and was back to the service advisor saying "Would you please check this car, please? The engine is making a really loud rattling noise..." The mechanic had already gone home by now, so it was left to me to check it out, the service advisor called me up to look at the car..... It was brought into the service drive, I then popped the hood, pulled the engine oil dipstick, and it was completely dry! 0_0

So then I crawl under the car to see if the plug or new filter was still on the engine, and they were. So I then go and get a container with the right amount of 5w-30 for the engine and a funnel, then stopped by my bench and grabbed my torque wrench (just in case the lug nuts weren't tight from doing the rotation, right?), poured the oil in, started it up and the noise ceased. One problem solved.... Then I go around the car and check all 20 lug nuts, and only about half of them were torqued to spec. *sigh* In the middle of torquing the lug nuts, my boss came in and was wondering why this car was having it's lug nuts torqued and having oil added to it after it left the shop, and the service advisor said "the new mechanic spaced those steps for some odd reason." XD Someone's getting scalded in the morning! :P I find it hilarious that this is the second year in a row I've had to fix someone else's screwed-up oil change on my birthday (last year, it was my dad when he changed the oil on my sister's car in the driveway! XD)

Other than that, it was an easy yet busy day of work, then came home and spent time with family for my b-day, and am now just relaxing. I'm feeling fine still a little over a month after my appendectomy. As far as price on that, out of nearly $ 17000 for the total procedure, I only owe about $ 1200 thanks to my insurance. So that is really good news. Saturday, I'm getting the timing belt and water pump replaced on my Stratus with the help of our experienced Dodge mechanic (not the twit who screwed up today! :P), so I won't have to worry about that for another 60k miles. And this weekend I'm looking to working some more on my Plymouth in getting it ready for the Spirit R/T powertrain I've got sitting in my garage and finally get it running. I'll post some progress pics in [info]motor_furs when I get some time.

Anyways, that's all from me, so y'all take care and I'll see ya laterz! And thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday today.

Back to work tomorrow!

Bit of an update on my appendectomy.... went to the surgeon today and he said the incisions healed great with no infection, took the staples out, and placed some iodine adhesive strips over the incisions to finish the healing, and cleared me to go back to work in the morning. All went well in this whole thing, and the best part.... that's the ONLY time in my life I have to do that.

Thank you to all that wished me well in my recovery. Your support was very much appreciated. :-)

(no subject)

Just got back home from the hospital from an appendectomy. Thankfully it did NOT burst the whole week I felt it in pain, so it was a simple and quick removal laparoscopically.

I flew back from Wisconsin a week ago today from visiting with [info]coopervulp and [info]hunterwolf that weekend, and the whole way back, I had this feeling of motion sickness. Which confused me to no end since I never got motion sickness when I fly. Then Tuesday after work, I felt a bit of pain in the lower right abdomen that showed up and then disappeared after a few minutes. Then I went to sleep and woke up Wednesday morning and had it back and it stayed with me since that time, but it was only a minor pain that was centralized to the LRQ of my abdomen, with no fever or nausea that was commonly associated with appendicitis, so I was quite confused to say the least....

Then yesterday I called my sister's doctor who was very generous to squeeze me into his schedule to check it out. And his conclusion was the same as mine; possible appendicits. He then set me up with a CT scan at the hospital later that afternoon, then he looked at it and called me a couple hours later after I got back home and was literally like "OMG, you've got appendicits, get into the hospital, NOW!"

Got to the hospital at 4 PM, got into the smock and started an IV drip and two different antibiotics, and had to wait for nearly 8 HOURS to get into surgery just before midnight. I was told that I came out of the operating room and into post-op sometime just before 3 AM, and I remember that the short time I was off morphine in that time, I was flailing my arms and muttering out "It hurts! It hurts!" and then fell back to sleep and woke up wide awake at 6 this morning.

Anyways, after rapidly transitioning between a liquid breakfast and a semi-solid lunch with no pain or nausea post-op, I'm back home and feeling ok, just with a sore belly for a while. I'm ordered out of work for the next week and my follow-up post-op appt with he surgeon will be on Tuesday morning. So here's to relaxation and recovery! Thank you all so much who wished me well during my operation. It made me feel better during my nervous and scared times just before the surgery to help get me through it.

Anyways, I'll CUL8R!
